The House of Alpaca

Alpaca your bags and head to Goulburn where there’s an all Aussie producer. At The House of Alpaca they take care of every step from paddock to product. Tag along on a factory tour and see what goes into making a throw, cuddly toy or slippers.  When you feel the fleece yourself you’ll know why their alpacas come from their multi-award winning stud. This fleece has been carefully shorn then classed by the guys at The House of Alpaca to suit each product. It’s incredible to see the huge weaving loom in action making a throw rug right in front of you. Keep an eye out for scarves and shawls being made on their knitting machine. You can even watch traditional sheep-skin boots being made. Snap up a souvenir because you’ll get a discount on all their products plus a tasty homemade afternoon tea.

Here’s an accommodation stop over or a Farmstay that’s beautiful inside and out. Head outdoors and meet plenty of cute critters. There are 50 goats, sheep, chickens, a pig plus alpacas. Head down to one of three dams on their 186 acre property, it’s a wildlife haven. Inside the stone homestead take a look at the walls. There are crystals in them! You’ll love the layout and cathedral ceilings. There’s plenty of room for the whole gang with four bedrooms and two bathrooms. They even have full sized spa baths. You’ll make good use of the outdoor entertaining area and verandahs. There’s also a pizza oven and a barbecue to cook up a storm.

About

Sydney Weekender, hosted by Mike Whitney, is now in its 24th year!
Travelling around the city and throughout the length & breadth of the state, each episode investigates the best places to stay, eat and play so you can make the most of your weekend.

After retiring from international cricket, Mike first appeared on Sydney Weekender back in 1994, and since then has loved every minute of it.

Over the years, Mike has hosted Sydney Weekender from all over New South Wales; from Eden in the south, to Tibooburra in the far northwest of the state.

One of Mike's favourite moments was when he had the chance to fly in a fully restored De Havilland Vampire fighter jet at the Temora Aviation Museum. "The pilot opened the throttle and sent the Vampire vertical," he says, "It was such a blast - the whole time I was thinking - I've got the best job in the world."

Sydney Weekender is on every Sunday at 5.30pm on the Seven Network in Sydney, and across N.S.W. & the A.C.T. on the PRIME Network. It's repeated a week later on 7TWO.

We're also on 7TWO on Saturdays - Please check your local guide for times.
