Welcome to one of the top dive sites in not only the country, but the world. The fish, turtles, and sharks, will blow your mind. This is Fish Rock Cave, the sweetest treat any scuba diver could hope for.

South West Rocks is where you launch in the boat to find this amazing dive spot. It might look like an island rock, but underwater Fish Rock Cave is a magical underwater world, and one of the best cave dives on Planet Earth. An amazing 125 metres long, the cave travels right through the centre of the island. Lighting your way with your torch, you’re likely to meet some of the island locals, like the puppy dogs of the sea – the Grey Nurse Sharks. Given that Fish Rock Cave is home to a large colony of this shark, you’re pretty much guaranteed to come across a few during your dive. As you get to the end of the cave, the light appears, and above you the  silhouettes of  schools and schools of fish appear. This really is an incredible experience, and definitely one for the bucket list.

Once you’ve experienced the excitement and beauty of Fish Rock Cave, you’ll need a place to rest your head. There are comfortable lodgings right above the dive shop or, if you’re after a little more luxury, ‘Grass Trees Escape’ is a winner. This architecturally designed house has three bedrooms, a huge living area and a deck with sweeping views of beautiful bushland. For a little more room, there are another two bedrooms just next door in the ‘Tallow Wood Pavillion’. A great place to check in and completely tune out.

About

Sydney Weekender, hosted by Mike Whitney, is now in its 24th year!
Travelling around the city and throughout the length & breadth of the state, each episode investigates the best places to stay, eat and play so you can make the most of your weekend.

After retiring from international cricket, Mike first appeared on Sydney Weekender back in 1994, and since then has loved every minute of it.

Over the years, Mike has hosted Sydney Weekender from all over New South Wales; from Eden in the south, to Tibooburra in the far northwest of the state.

One of Mike's favourite moments was when he had the chance to fly in a fully restored De Havilland Vampire fighter jet at the Temora Aviation Museum. "The pilot opened the throttle and sent the Vampire vertical," he says, "It was such a blast - the whole time I was thinking - I've got the best job in the world."

Sydney Weekender is on every Sunday at 5.30pm on the Seven Network in Sydney, and across N.S.W. & the A.C.T. on the PRIME Network. It's repeated a week later on 7TWO.

We're also on 7TWO on Saturdays - Please check your local guide for times.
