A family trip to the Hunter Valley: lions, desserts & vineyards

The Hunter Valley has a lion’s share of wineries – but did you know it has lions, as well?

Mike comes face to face with two of them, white lions Covu and Narla, at the Hunter Valley Zoo, near Cessnock. Brother and sister lions, they’re two of 130 different species at this beautiful private zoo – that has many animals you won’t see anywhere else.

There are albino kangaroos and wallabies – even a white kookaburra! There are walk-through enclosures – the farmyard, aviary and kangaroo yard – or pay a bit extra for an animal encounter with meerkats, marmosets and furred lemurs.

The family will love Mike’s next stop – Sabor Hunter Valley Dessert Bar near Polkolbin where Fernando Antao has 50 stunning desserts on the menu! Can’t choose which one to try? Get a Tasting Plate and sample five!

If you have a large family (or lots of friends), stay the night at Degen Estate – a luxury accommodation on 54 acres of the Degen family vineyard. The main house and two cottages sleep 20 people – and there’s a massive gourmet kitchen, stunning swimming pool and of course – a cellar door for tasting some award-winning wines.
This Hunter Valley trip really is a family affair!

Book any two-night stay at Degen Estate and receive a complimentary mixed dozen of premium single vineyard Degen Wines and Private Cellar Door tasting*.
