An outback adventure through Yanga & Mungo National Parks

Matt’s hitting the gateway to the outback — the beautiful little town of Balranald in southwest New South Wales, where he’ll explore the natural wonders of Yanga National Park and Mungo National Park.

Hooking up with local outfit Outback Geo Adventures, the first stop is at Yanga – a former sheep station, where the crew explores the old woolshed.

Then it’s further into the park to visit the landscape Yanga’s really known for – the wetlands of the Low Bidgee. It’s absolutely incredible to think there is this much water in the outback, and it provides a haven for over 150 species of birds, including migratory birds from as far away as Japan.

Matt tops off his Yanga experience with a trip to the old homestead.

The next day is completely different but just as exciting. Outback Geo Adventures take Matt to the World Heritage-listed Mungo National Park. He stops in at the visitors centre before heading down to a lookout to see the massive, dry expanses of the Willandra Lakes system.

But the real showstopper is yet to come: a chance to watch the full moon rise over the famous Walls of China.
