Jamala Wildlife Lodge

From the National Gallery, to Parliament House, Canberra has many attractions…and if you’re after a wildlife experience, LIKE NO OTHER, they’ve got that too! Jamala Wildlife Lodge is the closest thing to an African Safari, this side of Kenya. Connected to the National Zoo and Aquarium, Jamala Wildlife Lodge is focused on immersive animal experiences. Upon arrival, guests are treated to a special afternoon tea, while they watch the Capuchin monkeys play, from the comfort of the Ushaka Lodge. Guests can also marvel at the shark tank, home to two sharks, and some incredible African ornaments and relics.

And there’s more magic, behind closed doors, when guests check into their rooms. Ushaka Lodge has seven rooms, including the Reef Room which boasts a mesmerising five metre deep ocean aquarium in the room! For those who love big cats, there’s the Jungle Bungalows with the chance to sleep in a room- separated by reinforced glass- with a bird-eye view to either tigers, lions, a cheetah or bears. There’s also the Giraffe Treehouses where guests can meet, greet and feed tigers from the privacy of their very own deck!

There are many incredible animal encounters at the National Zoo and Aquarium- the only combined zoo and aquarium in the country- but perhaps one of the most thrilling is the c cheetah experience. Visitors can enter the pen, and even pat these incredible cats, which number less than ten thousand in the wild. Money raised through the encounter, and all if the zoo encounters, contributes to conservation efforts to preserve these animals for future generations.
