Things to Check Before You Hit the Road in Your Caravan

At the end of your caravanning getaway, it can be easy to forget some of the simple things that need to be done before you hit the road. With so much to do, it can be very easy to miss an important step, so here are some of the things that you need to do to ensure that your journey is a smooth one.

Inside Your Caravan

Before you hit the wide-open road, it is important that you double check that the inside of your caravan is ready. Check that all of your windows are closed, so that you do not find any nasty surprises when you arrive at your destination. Make sure that all loose items are secured, including drawers and doors. If possible, set your fridge to 12V, and check that its’ door is secured.

Outside Your Caravan

Outside your caravan, there are so many important things to check that it can be easy to accidentally forget one. It can be helpful to create a checklist of things that you need to do before setting off, to ensure nothing slips your mind in the excitement of getting ready to leave.

It is critical that you double check that your towing aid is fitted correctly. It is also very important that you check that your caravan’s lights are operational and that your towing mirrors are set up. Before you head off, also inspect your tyres and safety chains. Do not forget to turn off your gas, pop your television antenna in its’ travel position, and disconnect the electrical lead.

Be sure to remove your wheel chocks, and detach or secure your jockey wheel. Raise your caravan’s steps and pack away your awning. Finally, release your caravan’s park break and check that everything is locked, and jump in the car for your next adventure!
